How often should you get assisted stretching?
Every week is typical, and anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks is common.
3 daysUsually week2 weeks
Flexibility improves most with stretching several days a week. A weekly assisted session works best alongside stretching at home in between.
People often come sooner with
- Starting out
- Training hard, or a lot of sitting
And later with
- Stretching on your own most days
- Keeping up range you’ve already gained
Ask your stretch therapist
This is a typical range, not advice for you. Your stretch therapist will suggest what fits you, and it often changes as you do.
Where this comes from
- Garber CE, et al. American College of Sports Medicine position stand: quantity and quality of exercise for healthy adults. 2011. ACSM recommends stretching each major muscle group on at least 2 days a week, for about 60 seconds total per stretch.
- Thomas E, et al. The relation between stretching typology and stretching duration: the effects on range of motion. International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2018. Range of motion improved more with more stretching days per week, and the authors suggest stretching at least 5 days a week for at least 5 minutes total per week.
