How often should you get a facial?

Every 4 weeks is typical, and anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months is common.

No study sets a schedule for facials. Every four weeks is a common routine because the outer layer of skin renews itself in about three weeks in young adults, and more slowly with age.

People often come sooner with

  • A series your esthetician suggests for a goal
  • Before an event

And later with

  • Skin you’re happy with and a good routine at home
  • Sensitive skin that likes a longer break

Ask your esthetician

This is a typical range, not advice for you. Your esthetician will suggest what fits you, and it often changes as you do.

Where this comes from

  1. Grove GL, Kligman AM. Age-associated changes in human epidermal cell renewal. Journal of Gerontology, 1983. The outer skin layer replaced itself in about 20 days in young adults and took more than 10 days longer in older adults.
  2. American Academy of Dermatology. Chemical peels: FAQs. The AAD says light peels often take 3 to 5 treatments and may be repeated every 2 to 5 weeks.
